Tanker group petitions DOT about California meal, rest break requirements for hazmat carriers
The National Tank Truck Carriers says California’s rules, which entitles drivers to paid 30-minute meal break periods after five and 10 hours of work, prohibits carriers from requiring an employee to work during these breaks, violating best practices and load attendance requirements for hazmat haulers, the group says.

FMCSA upholds 30-minute break rule following CVSA request to nix it from hours regs
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration earlier this month denied a petition made by North American truck inspectors asking the agency to rescind the 30-minute break required by current hours of service regulations.

FMCSA seeking feedback on pilot program for under-21, military-trained truckers
The proposed program would allow a limited number of military-trained drivers between the ages of 18 and 21 to operate commercial motor vehicles in interstate commerce. The drivers in the group will have to be sponsored by a motor carrier participating in the program, FMCSA says, and their safety records will be recorded through the duration of the three-year pilot program.

By model year (MY) 2027 – when the Phase 2 standards are fully phased in – tractors in a tractor-trailer combination must achieve up to 25 percent lower CO2 emissions and fuel consumption than an equivalent tractor in 2018.
