OOIDA: Court decision on e-log mandate could come by end of 2016
OOIDA filed a lawsuit earlier this year with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit asking the court to strike down the rule. OOIDA argued in its legal complaint that the mandate violates truckers’ 4th Amendment rights and does not have a safety benefit.

Split sleeper berth flexibility exemption extended four years for drivers for private carrier McKee Foods
FMCSA announced last March it had granted McKee a waiver to allow some of its drivers to use either 5/5, 4/6 or 3/7 splits to satisfy their federally required 10 sleeper berth hours per day. The extension allows some drivers for McKee use split sleeper berth time until 2020.

Hours of service changes, driver pay reform could come before Congress soon, defense to both already begun
Both chambers of Congress are expected to begin work soon on federal appropriations bills for the 2017 fiscal year, and lawmakers will likely, as in recent years, use their 2017 DOT funding bills as vehicles to implement hours of service changes or other trucking industry-related policy reforms. Lobbyists and lawmakers, however, have already started to crow about both.
