00:00 This week’s CCJ Tech shorts includes new fraud security measures, training via augmented reality, a new freight planning product and more. CCJ Tech Shorts is a weekly roundup of technology in trucking.

00:21 STEMCO, a manufacturer of heavy-duty components and solutions for commercial vehicles, has launched a new mobile app that uses augmented reality technology to create an interactive experience for training and maintenance instruction for wheel end and steering products.

Key features of the free app, called STEMCO Live, include on-demand access; comprehensive support with detailed instruction for optimizing products; and interactive learning that allows for engagement with STEMCO products in real time, from inspection to installation.

00:53 The California Air Resources Board Clean Truck Check program has added a fourth telematics provider to its list of certified continuously connected, on-board diagnostic vehicle emissions testing devices. CARB, in January, began enforcing new emissions testing requirements for heavy-duty vehicles.

Samsara joins Zonar Systems, Geotab and Pacific Track.

Samsara has developed CTC Manager as its latest telematics integration, enabling users to remotely track and transmit to CARB required emissions data via Samsara Vehicle Gateways. In addition, it provides clear visibility into the emissions status of every enabled vehicle and centralizes this information within Samsara’s Connected Operations Platform. This ensures timely compliance with minimal administrative effort, ultimately saving time and maximizing operational efficiency.

01:45 Ship.Cars, a provider of software solutions for car hauling companies, has rolled out a suite of new security measures that aim to protect carriers from the growing threat of fraud within the automotive transportation industry.

Among the new measures are enhanced password requirements, mandatory two-factor authentication, proprietary fraud detection tools and Continuous Carrier USDOT Authority Monitoring. In addition, the company unveiled plans to develop a new fraud detection tool that leverages advanced algorithms to monitor user activity for suspicious behavior.

Ship.Cars’ President (Eftim Eftimov) said, “While technology has brought increased efficiency and transparency to the logistics sector, it has also raised the need for stricter security measures. We’ll continue to evolve our security infrastructure, leveraging advanced technologies to stay ahead of emerging threats and provide a secure and reliable platform for carriers. That means putting in place improved security measures today while also proactively developing tools that will prevent fraud in the future.”

02:46 DOT 511 Traffic Network has joined the Trucker Path mobile app for North American truckers.

DOT 511 is a nationwide service that provides real-time information about travel conditions, road closures and restrictions, weather-related closures, crashes and construction.

Trucker Path’s Chief Marketing Officer (Chris Oliver) said, “With the addition of DOT 511 feeds to the Trucker Path app, our live mapping is just as strong, if not stronger, than popular consumer apps that don’t provide truck-specific navigation. With DOT 511 feeds, the over one million professional truck drivers who use Trucker Path can now see real-time footage of traffic congestion, plus live construction and crash information throughout the U.S. With the DOT 511 feeds users not only know what lies ahead but also have the option of selecting alternate routes.”

03:37 StreetLight Data has unveiled a new freight planning product in collaboration with Altitude by Geotab.

Using StreetLight’s machine learning and data science, along with Altitude by Geotab’s commercial vehicle movement dataset, the product delivers actionable insights to power critical decision-making around freight movement.

It includes aggregate truck volumes and congestion metrics for all major roads and delivers rich analytics to understand the 'why' behind truck activity, with data by weight, industry, route type and more.

Available within the StreetLight InSight application, planners can contextualize truck activity with other modes of transportation, including personal vehicle, bike and pedestrian metrics. The ability to compare the distribution of trucks to personal vehicles allows planners to see a more complete picture of travel patterns.
