As the National Motor Freight Traffic Association, Inc. (NMFTA) kicks off the new year, we're excited to introduce Roadmap to Resilience—a groundbreaking initiative designed to guide owner operators and fleets on their journey to cybersecurity maturity. Just like any road trip, navigating cybersecurity is easier with a reliable map.

The NMFTA cybersecurity team has developed a comprehensive three-part guidebook tailored for fleets of all sizes, from single-unit owner-operators to mid-sized fleets with up to 1,000 power units. The first installment, NMFTA Cybersecurity Guidebook – Owner Operator and Small Fleet, launched in January, providing essential security strategies for smaller operations.

This guidance is designed to support fleet owners and decision-makers in developing a long-term, strategic roadmap for cybersecurity maturity. NMFTA’s Artie Crawford, director of cybersecurity and Ben Wilkens, cybersecurity principal engineer, introduced this initiative during its January 9 webinar, coinciding with the free public release of the first guidebook. You can access the no-charge recording here.

As NMFTA continues to roll out its cybersecurity guidebooks, we encourage feedback from owner operators, fleets, and industry experts. Our goal is to provide clear, actionable security standards that are accessible to non-cybersecurity professionals, helping to simplify and strengthen cybersecurity programs across fleets of all sizes.

This month, we officially opened the call for abstracts for the 2025 NMFTA Cybersecurity Conference, taking place in Austin on October 26–28. As the only trucking conference dedicated entirely to cybersecurity, we look forward to the innovative presentation ideas and discussions submitted by industry professionals. If you have an idea for a presentation, panel discussion, fireside chat, or hands-on learning session, be sure to submit an abstract by February 28. Final selections will be made in March.

In February, NMFTA will release a streamlined list of essential cybersecurity controls tailored for owner operators. This resource is designed to enhance personal cyber hygiene and strengthen business resilience by providing practical, must-have security measures.
