As part of the 25,000-engine recall issued last month Cummins and Cummins-Westport earlier this month, more than 2,000 2014-2015 Kenworth and Peterbilt model trucks have been recalled, along with more than 3,200 2008-2015 Freightliner, Sterling and Thomas Built model trucks and buses.
The recall includes Cummins-Westport ISL G engines built between Jan. 3, 2013, and Feb. 2, 2014, and Cummins Westport ISX12 G engines built between Feb. 19, 2013, and Feb. 2, 2014. Cummins-Westport ISL G engines manufactured between Sept. 12, 2007, and Jan. 2, 2013, also have been recalled, as they could have been recalibrated during service between January 2013 and February 2014.
Cummins and Cummins-Westport said that in temperatures below freezing, ice could form in or near the intake manifold’s temperature and pressure sensor and cause it to not work properly, which could cause an increase in exhaust temperature and potential for flames to come out of the exhaust pipe, increasing risk of fire.
Paccar released its recall Feb. 18, reporting that 2014 Kenworth models T440, T660, T800 and W900 manufactured between Jan. 23, 2013, and Feb. 4, 2014, and 2014-2015 Peterbilt models 320, 365, 382 and 284 built between Jan. 21, 2013, and Feb. 5, 2014, equipped with either the Cummins-Westport ISL G or Cummins ISX12 G are being recalled.
Paccar says 2,019 trucks are potentially affected.
Daimler in its recall notice reported that 2008-2015 Freightliner models 114SD, Cascadia and M3 Business Class and Sterling model LT8500 tractors built between Feb. 19, 2008, and Feb. 11, 2014, and equipped with a Cummins-Westport ISL G or Cummins ISX12 G are being recalled.
Daimler says 3,258 trucks and buses are potentially affected.
