Labor Day and Bobby McFerrin

A tip of the cap to all of America’s hard workers on this Labor Day Monday. Today is the day we’re supposed to take a break, kick back, relax and toast ourselves to a job well done for the rest of the year. Truckers, you’re included in this group, so here’s to you – congratulations on a year of hard labor and achievement, and keep up the great work.

Of course, the world of trucking never really stops, and I’m sure that today there’s plenty of drivers and dispatchers and others as well who are toiling away to keep America’s freight moving and store shelves stocked.

And today they’re having to do it when America’s highways are jam-packed with vacationers trying to squeeze one last ounce out of summer 2012. I read somewhere that traffic this Labor Day is supposed to be somewhere around 3 percent thicker than it was last year, even with higher gasoline prices.

So truckers, please keep an extra eye out for those crazed four-wheelers trying to race back home a couple of minutes earlier. Traffic’s going to be tough out there today, so everyone needs to be patient, crank up their favorite tunes and – like the Bobby McFerrin song goes – “Don’t worry, be happy.”

Happy Labor Day, and for those who are off today, enjoy the break from behind the big-rig wheel.
