Ryder System Inc. announced that Robert Sanchez has been promoted to president and chief operating officer, responsible for the general management of all business operations of Ryder’s two business segments, Fleet Management Solutions and Supply Chain Solutions.

“At Ryder, and in my role as the CEO, we have had a longstanding commitment to management development at all levels of our organization,” says Greg Swienton, chairman and chief executive officer. “This includes providing leadership opportunities in positions that broaden our team’s capabilities through rotational assignments as well as providing roles of increasing responsibility that contribute to the long-term progress and stability of our company. This appointment is another example of that commitment and one that has been well-earned by Mr. Sanchez. Because of his breadth of assignments and performance over the years, Robert is ideally suited for this position.”

Sanchez, who previously served as president of Global Fleet Management Solutions, will be succeeded by Dennis Cooke, who now will be responsible for leading all areas of global business operations for the company’s largest business segment, which manages a fleet of more than 180,000 vehicles from 800 locations, servicing the needs of more than 14,000 customers.

“Over the course of his career, Dennis has developed and proven his ability to lead large teams to accelerate growth, drive operational efficiencies and increase profitability,” says Sanchez. “The experience, ideas and energy that Dennis has brought to his work at Ryder should continue to serve him and our company very well in this expanded role. We look forward to the benefits of his collaborative and focused leadership as our team works to accelerate profitable growth.”
