Two additional truck tires from Continental Tire the Americas have been added to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency SmartWay Transport Partnership’s list of verified fuel-saving technologies, the company announced. Continental’s HSL2 Eco Plus (Heavy Steer Long-Haul) and HDL2 Eco Plus (Heavy Drive Long-Haul) truck tire sizes in the 295/60R22.5 size recently were verified by SmartWay as low rolling-resistance truck tires. These truck tires are a full three inches shorter than the 275/80R22.5 sizes, but each has 1,215 more pounds of additional carrying capacity in a single fitment for load range G.

For each axle position, Continental offers multiple options for tires that have been verified by EPA for low rolling resistance when used for Class 8, line-haul trucks, including steer tires HSL2 and HSL2 Eco Plus; drive tires HDL Eco Plus, HDL2 Eco Plus and HDL2 DL Eco Plus; and trailer tires HTL Eco Plus and HTL1. Tires verified by EPA for lower rolling resistance can provide a reduction in NOx emissions and an estimated fuel savings of 3 percent or greater when used on all five axles on long-haul Class 8 trucks.
