Florida truck inspector pleads guilty

A Florida third-party truck inspector recently pleaded guilty in federal court to providing inspection stickers and reports on vehicles he had not inspected.

Jose Miguel Basto of Hialeah, a self-employed third-party commercial motor vehicle safety inspector, pleaded guilty Dec. 7 in U.S. District Court in Miami to one felony charge of making material false statements.

Basto is scheduled for sentencing Feb. 15, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Office of Inspector General. Basto could face a $250,000 criminal fine and five years in prison.
