Swift Transportation announced that it has deployed PrePass to enable its vehicles to bypass weigh stations at highway speed and pay tolls electronically at toll plazas throughout the Northeast and Illinois.

“Uninterrupted travel through weigh stations and hundreds of E-ZPass-equipped bridges and toll booths means enhanced customer service and added efficiencies, such as fuel savings, processing toll payments and avoiding delays at toll booths,” says Dave Berry, vice president of the Phoenix-based truckload carrier.

Swift’s trucking subsidiaries operate the largest fleet of truckload carrier equipment in the United States, with regional and transcontinental operations throughout most of North America.

“We welcome Swift to our growing base of PrePass carriers,” says Richard Landis, president and chief executive officer of HELP Inc., the public-private partnership responsible for PrePass. “Their decision to use PrePass sends a strong signal throughout the industry that our service has bottom-line benefits to our customers. Each month, PrePass processes more than 4 million weigh station bypasses, saving the industry about 2 million gallons of fuel and more than 340,000 hours of unnecessary weigh station stops.”

PrePass — available at 254 weigh stations, ports of entry and agricultural interdiction facilities in 24 states — enables enrolled carriers to pay tolls at more than 300 E-ZPass locations. More than 350,000 vehicles and 56,000 carriers participate in PrePass, the company says.
