Mack Trucks says that ABS-6, a next-generation antilock braking system from Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems, now is available on its highway models.
The ABS-6 system is designed to apply the brakes selectively on individual wheel ends, depending on driving conditions, vehicle speed and other inputs from onboard sensors: This assists the driver in reducing speed and keeping the vehicle properly aligned, and reduces the possibility of a slide or jackknife. This stability function, or yaw control, also can be helpful in situations involving oversteer or understeer, and sudden transitions from dry to slippery surfaces. The system also is engineered to apply all available brakes to reduce rollover potential when turning.
