In compliance with the newly enacted Wood Packaging and Pallet Fumigation Regulations from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, a plastic pallet impervious to acids, fats, solvents and odors, and resistant to insects and fungi, now is available from Universal Family of Products.

“It is a quality export pallet that meets the new ISPM (International Standard for Phytosanitary Measures) Export Pallet regulations,” said Jim England, president and CEO of the Escondido, Calif.-based company.

The pallets, designated 330/340/350, are about 2-3 times lighter than wood pallets and can be stored outdoors without being damaged by weather, the company says. The 330 is the standard 40-by-48-inch pallet size, while the 340 has snap-on bottom runners and 350 designates a frame. Both frame and runners are optional.

Universal says the 330 pallets — manufactured from recycled plastic and completely recyclable — are made in accordance with methods applicable to ISO 8611 (International Organization for Standardization 8611) and with customer requirements for specific applications.

The four-way entry feature — ability to access the pallets by all four sides — accommodates pallet jacks still within the standard nestable outline and is compatible with just about all fork trucks and hand trucks, according to the company.
